Software Engineer Data & Control Plane Team - Opportunity for Working Remotely

This role is in SASE control and data plane engineering team. You will be engaged in cutting edge design and implementation of SASE products. You will also be involved in white boarding, problem solving, troubleshooting of SASE edge and Gateways encompassing Data and Control plane. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You will design and develop core control and data plane features and services for VMware SASE edge and gateway.

  • Within 30 days of employment, you will become competent with VMware SASEs deployment and high- level design.

  • You will work closely with Engineering QE, Product Management, Support and Tech Ops to provide day-to-day operations for the SASE portfolio.

  • Within 90 days of employment, you will be providing high level design overview in your area of learning and pillar ownership. You will be providing code review in control and data plane areas, fixing issues in code with troubleshooting and debuggability.

  • Within 180 days you will be in a position to work on field escalations and help out on a rotation basis with on-call support.

  • Within 360 days along with above, you will be reviewing new feature request requirement and putting together functional and design specifications in SASE areas. You will be a self-starter and lean into projects until the best solution is found.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

The work will involve network packet processing and data plane development, focused on expanding the range of services, as well as the performance and scale, offered within our SASE POPs. You will have the opportunity to work directly with internal teams as well as external partners and customers. You will need to code in C and Python and be deeply familiar with developing for high-performance packet processing systems. Familiarity with a variety of networking control plane protocols is also useful, and experience with SD-WAN or other software-defined networking technologies is helpful. We develop on bare-metal hardware as well as virtualized environments, so familiarity with ESXi and KVM is desirable, and we also deploy in all the major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), so prior experience working on cloud-based development is preferred. You will take complete ownership of your tasks end-to-end which includes design, implementation, unit testing and deployment of the product/service.

The hiring manager for this is role is Arun Sriraman. Arun an Engineering Manager leading the Control & Dataplane Team in the SEBU SASE division. Arun is a strong proponent of SaaS, cloud-native technologies and opensource. He encourages his team to be agile, self-empowered to pick up complex problems and bring innovative solutions to the table together.

Where is this role located?

This team has been historically based out of VMwares Palo Alto office however this role is open to fully remote and can be done anywhere in North America.
