Manufacturing Quality Control Engineer

Work Location: Gladstone, Queensland

FFI is transforming regional Australia through green industry manufacturing with a Global Green Energy Manufacturing Centre (GEM) in Gladstone, Queensland. Stage one of the six-stage project will establish Australia’s first multi-gigawatt-scale electrolyser factory – a world-class facility with an initial capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) per annum – more than doubling current global production.

Reporting to the Quality Lead, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a quality culture within the organisation by ensuring the production processes comply with the company’s quality objectives and to implement continuous improvement. To achieve this, you will be hands on assuring and controlling quality with systems, tools and teams to exceed customer expectations while ensuring sustainable operations.

Participate and contribute while ensuring that all related activities are performed in accordance with FFI/ Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments.

Key accountabilities will include:

Deploy and support a quality culture within local FFI by assuring and controlling quality with systems, tools and teams to exceed customer expectations while ensuring sustainable operations
Support and maintain the quality management system and all aspects managed in line with FFI guidance
Perform sampling and quality control testing on incoming components and final products
Assists in the implementation of effective internal controls to verify that processes will meet customer and stakeholder requirements
Performing quality audits of internal processes
Represents the voice of the customer within local teams
Challenge the teams with customer experience feedback and input to decisions
Enable and coach employees to evaluate risks, problems and solutions from a customer/ stakeholder point of view
Utilize FFI systems and tools to assist the engineering function with product data and analysis to validate that products continue to meet operational and customer expectations throughout their lifecycle
Utilize advanced product quality planning to assure effective introduction of new products
Collaborates with engineering to develop inspection plans and test protocols for existing and/or new products
Utilize the local quality management system to provide the local teams with procedures and documentation that sufficiently describe their work activities
Lead the local teams in the application of an operational approach and system of process management that is continually evaluated for effectiveness
Statistical trending and analysis of QC testing data
Performs audits and uses quality data analytics from all parts of the operation to identify risks, failures and non-conformances within the local operations, its suppliers and customers

Qualifications and skills required:

Bachelor’s degree in quality, science, industrial, or mechanical engineering.
Desirable - Certificate or Diploma in Auditing for ISO9001 system or equivalent
2+ years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or a similar role
Demonstrated experience delivering quality-focussed outcomes in a mass production manufacturing environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving and project management skills
Experience using QA software tools and processes and automatically controlled processes
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable - Proven experience in an auditing role under ISO9001 or equivalent
Desirable - Demonstrated experience to work independently within stringent EH&S measures
Desirable - Lean Six Sigma Green or Black belt certified/ trained
