About the role

Seeking a Registered Nurse to work alongside the Aboriginal Health Practitioner and Allied Health Staff to provide high-quality health care to the community of Robinvale.
Provide clinical care/triage, assist the GP with minor procedures, vaccinations, Chronic disease management ATSI health checks and health, promotion/screening/disease prevention, Childhood vaccinations, Mental Health consultations, and General illness.
Involvement in health promotional activities and expected to co-ordinate promotional activities to increase the screening of the clients
You will work with a varying diversity of cultures and a low-socioeconomic population in Robinvale, however, the main focus is the indigenous population.

Skills and experience

Registered Nurse Division 1 with current AHPRA registration
Must have experience in general practice, or community nursing (ESSENTIAL)
Knowledge and understanding of the health issues that face Aboriginal people and their communities. Respect, understand & acknowledge the traditions of Aboriginal people (ESSENTIAL)
An understanding of a Community Controlled Health Organisation
Knowledge of current immunisation schedule, diabetes management, asthma management, enhancing primary care items, infection control, CPR and emergency resuscitation techniques, equipment & drugs.

Practice Details:

The Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a diverse range of programs from childcare, kindergarten, health, medical, well-being, housing, and aged care for the Aboriginal people in Robinvale. Our main focus is on self-determination, empowerment, and resilience
The health practice staff includes chronic disease clinical supervisor, Division 2 nurse, mental health nurse, midwife/nurse, diabetes educator, full-time Aboriginal health worker, visiting cardiologist and other visiting allied health services includes a Physiotherapist, Podiatrist, Australian Hearing and Optometry, Dental Services and an excellent administration team, receptionist and a community driver. They also have Mental Health clinicians with Family services and AOD.
MVAC also offers housing, aged care, NDIS providers, and men’s time out/outreach services.

The Robinvale region is home to at least five indigenous groups with traditional ownership belonging to people from the Latji Latji and Tatitati/Dadi Dadi people. The town is in close proximity to Mildura and Swanhill in Victoria. It is located on the banks of the Murray River. There are wonderful nature reserves and outdoor activities
