Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) - Laser Welding TechnicianCouncil for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) - Laser Welding Technician:Job SummaryThe CSIR has a vacancy for a Welding Technician in the Laser Engineering services group within the Manufacturing cluster providing laser-based manufacturing processing services to industrial clients.The incumbent will be responsible for execution of laser-based refurbishment, hardening, and laser welding tasks for industrial clients, inclusive of setting of equipment, implementation of suitable process parameters, and robot programming. This position is based in Pretoria.Duties and ResponsibilitiesExecute laser-based refurbishment and laser joining tasks for industrial clients, inclusive of the setting up of equipment;Programme robotic arm to perform laser-based processes;Implement suitable process parameters; and CAD (computer aided design)/CAM (computer aided machine) programming;Supervise laser-welding facilities at the site as well as at clients with specific reference to maintenance and safety;Check, inspect and quality control of laser-welding tasks performed for industrial clients;Safely operate, troubleshoot, and maintain custom laser welding equipment;Remain current in field of expertise with respect to new approaches in tools, methods or technologies;Serve as a go-to person/subject matter expert for engineers, quality, and operations team members;Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) requirements for employee safety, product quality, and productivity are adhered to;Perform quality checks on parts using hand tools, gauges, scales, micrometres, and computerised equipment;Read and interpret blueprints and perform all job tasks based on the job requirements;Identify and communicate suggestions for continuous improvement;Analytically approach solving problems through systematic monitoring and checking of information to meet standards and ensuring parts and welding meet specifications:Focus on quality and maintain concentration with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy by ensuring weld quality;Ensure Occupational Health and Safety requirements are adhered to.Qualifications and ExperienceN4 in Mechanical Engineering and related discipline; An apprenticeship trade certificate will be advantageous;Welding fabrication inspector level 1 certificate;At least three years working experience in welding;robotic programming and welding experience in fabrication/production environment will be advantageous;Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding experience;Any formal training courses in practical welding will be a recommendation;Knowledge in the following areas:Computer numerical control (CNC) programming and equipment will be advantageous;Joining processes, welding equipment, techniques, and standards;Working knowledge of measuring instruments;Basic understanding of health and safety protocols and standards.Skills required:Good verbal and written communication skills;Planning and organising;Strong mathematical skills;Excellent mechanical and troubleshooting skills.How to ApplyClick on the link below to apply View more information
