WCG Agriculture: Scientist (Production Level)Job PurposeThe Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an exciting employment opportunity for two suitably qualified and competent individuals to conduct research, assessment, evaluation, development, innovation, ensure the protection and sustainability of resources and contribute towards a knowledge economy. These posts are stationed in Elsenburg Stellenbosch.Key Performance AreasDevelop and implement methodologies, policies, systems and procedures; To perform scientific analysis and regulatory functions; Research and development; Human capital development.CompetenciesWorking knowledge of the following: Small stock genetics and genomics; dairy and/or beef production in intensive and extensive systems; understanding of animal management and nutrition in the mentioned species; Knowledge of the following: Scientific methodologies and models; Research Programme and Project Management; Legal compliance; Technical report writing; Computer-aided scientific applications; Data analysis; Policy development and decision making; Communication (written and verbal) skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape; Proven computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Presentation skills; Mentoring; Creating a high performance culture; Planning and organising; Conflict Management; Change Management; Problem solving and analysis.Minimum RequirementsAn appropriate Science degree BSc (Hons) or a 4-year BSc degree as recognized by the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) that allows for professional registration; Compulsory and valid registration with the SACNASP as a professional Natural Scientist in Animal Science or Agricultural Science; A minimum of 3 years post qualification animal science research experience; A valid code B driving licence.Active member of SASAS.
