Buyer / Planner

Platform Resourcingare currently working with a leading manufacturing company who are looking to expandtheir team by taking on a Buyer/ Planner in Cwmbran permanently.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assuring the continuous supply of assigned materials tosupport customer service goals and objectives, minimise cost of production, and achieve the companys statedinventory reduction initiatives.


  • Salary of up to £35,000 dependant on experience
  • Hours Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm and Friday 8.30am to 4pm

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate forecasted requirements to external suppliers.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing for best cost.
  • Prepare monthly Value Stream update (sales/past due commitment).
  • Effectively communicates areas of concern to appropriate departments, individuals and/or suppliers.
  • Inputs, maintains, and adjusts records or transactions to ensure system validity.
  • Provide due dates for consult factory customer orders.
  • Report and update Inside Sales with material delivery issues that may put Customer satisfaction at risk.
  • Daily order booking validation review.
  • Manage internal Kanban program which includes setting monthly review of Kanban levels, trigger points, safety stock levels, and lead times.
  • Schedule future production plans including level loading of the assembly cells.
  • Run assembly scheduling tool and level load plan with new data received.
  • Update KPI/Tactical boards with current supply information.
  • Evaluate and act upon the material requirements plan (MRP) for assigned commodities.
  • Generate and adjusts purchase orders and/or shop work orders to support production schedules daily.
  • Compile weekly report and interface with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, and Suppliers to resolve quality and/or delivery issues.
  • Resolve receiving discrepancies, invoice errors and coordinate adjustments on open shipment orders as necessary.
  • Maintains purchasing files, logs, and related records as needed.
  • Work to eliminate excess and obsolete parts, and rationalise similar parts.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience within a manufacturing or engineering Buyer/ Procurement position.
  • Experience of negotiating with suppliers in regards to pricing.
  • Knowledge of supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact based decisions. Includes a strong working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and scheduling software.
  • Able to produce reports for senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience with global suppliers desired.
