The team is expanding this year and works across several product categories and is involved a range of technologies including embedded electronics, sensors and software.We work very closely with the New Product Innovation (NPI) teams and deliver technologies into new products during the research phase.You will be working to various optical sensing technology platforms to enable specific product features, as well as researching into future technologies.
About the role
We work alongside the mechanical, thermal aero/acoustic teams in Technical Research and optical design engineers to help find the best technologies and integration approaches.In this role the work will involve shorter term projects targeting specific products, alongside longer term research projects to bring emerging technologies into future products is part of the role.
Work with the different sub teams within Technical Research, as well as NPI, other research groups and development teams.
Demonstrate designs that are robust and viable for use in product through laboratory testing and alsoto develop simulations to optimise designs.
Own the responsibilities of various electronics and optoelectronics sub system assembly for the various assigned projects.
Ensure the team generates suitable test specifications to ensure product reliability, safety and robustness. This includes the development of test environments including simulation, emulation and hardware/test equipment interactions.
Hardware design review activities (e.g. schematic reviews and pre/post PCB layout reviews).
Registration oflab/equipment risks in a project through FMEAs.
BEng/MEng degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, BSc/MSc (or equivalent) in Engineering Physics/Optoelectronics/Electronics or other relevant discipline and a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.
Demonstrable ability to research, innovate, as well as being a key contributor to strengthening the culture of innovation within the team and wider department.
Knowledge of optical system design as well as leading the experimental activities in the optics lab for various projects and not necessarily in existing categories you would expect from Dyson.
Expertise in optics, optical system design, optical component selection and setting up experiments, data analysis would be a good fit. Especially, if experienced with various experiments with solid state lasers and LEDs.
Experience of physical characterisation of optical systems/ sensors.
Exposure to optoelectronic- semiconductor lab design, schematic capture and PCB layout using electronic CAD tools.
Ray tracer like LightTools,Zemax.TracePro etc and use of Matlab or Python.
