Senior Mechanical Engineer (ISS)

Purpose of the Job:

The primary purpose of this position is to take a lead role in the creation, development and production of our innovative products designs as part of the Mechanical Engineering function group. This role focuses on management of the released products within the In Service Support department.

The ideal candidate would be an experienced and successful senior mechanical engineer with strong influencing skills who can take ownership of specific work packages with a strong scientific bias, working from first principles in areas of high innovation and ground-breaking applications. They should be a confident, enthusiastic, determined, delivery focused and organised individual who is keen to develop their career in a versatile environment with a keen with a flair for structuring complex information and an attention to detail.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate and lead the development of mechanical systems and products by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials engineering.
  • Provide input to and review engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Contribute to and lead design risks assessment activities for products already in production
  • Build and implement appropriate validation and verification testing plans to prove part and system performance and quality.
  • Interact with Manufacturing Engineering to account for Design for Assembly and Support production during product assembly.
  • Engage in lead problem resolution tasks including support of post-test analysis activity and develop counter measures using 8D tools.
  • Work alongside other departments (Engineering, Procurement, Quality Engineering, ) to develop optimised solutions to Engineering Sign-Off
  • Write technical reports on failure modes and mechanisms, interpreting from literature, test data, post-test analysis (PTA) reports, CAE analyses and materials analyses.


Education, Training and Skills:

  • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent higher-level engineering qualification.
  • Minimum four years experience related to the above accountabilities; experience in the automotive, aerospace, power generation or white-goods sectors would be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of design risk analysis and mitigation tools such as DFMEA.
  • ?Knowledge of materials engineering, heat transfer, thermodynamics, mechanics, hydraulics and test engineering would all be beneficial.
  • Experience with a 3D CAD program such as Creo, a product data management tool such as DDM and drawing standards such as BS 8888.?
  • Some familiarity with small batch and series production manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Familiarity with agile project management techniques such as Scrum.
