Senior Environmental Advisor

Our client, a leading renewable energy company is currently recruiting for a Senior Environmental Advisor, this is a long term contract position based in Currie. This is an exciting position, sitting within the Eastern Link HVDC project covering both onshore and offshore activities.

This role sits within the Eastern Link HVDC project team and provides project wide strategic leadership and professional direction regards the initial integration and subsequent delivery of environmental compliance and performance between SPT and NGET Transmission in support of operational excellence, legal compliance and environmentally considerate working practices. This covers both onshore and offshore activities.

As the Eastern Link Senior Environmental Advisor you will form part of HSEQ and Sustainability team within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals working on the Eastern Link £1.3B HVDC project. You will deliver Professional guidance and advice in all aspects of Health and Safety both onshore and offshore.

The role will have a particular focus on assisting in the developing strategic training and development to the joint SPT NGET project team and ensuring that our commitments and requirements are clearly understood and consistently communicated to all stakeholders including regulatory bodies.

You will support functional teams/team members regards their responsibilities in assisting with the effective coordination of Contractor best practice methodologies and client interface activities.

You will be responsible for associated Environmental reporting supported by the project PMO function including incident reporting, investigation and lessons learned.

The role will require proven experience in providing strategic environmental advice including collaboration with engineering, project teams and suppliers

Delivery of agreed SPT/NGET Eastern Link HSEQ strategy, vision and policy.
Work as part of a team or with individuals in their responsibilities to evolve and develop guides and documents used to ensure appropriate Environmental requirements are included when procuring goods and services.
Coach and mentor the wider Eastern Link team to ensure adequate cognisance of the Environment by assessing, issuing and answering tender stage TQs, review and analysis of tender submissions, review of site set up and management plans.
Deliver a programme of Environmental Site visits, ensuring relevant data is captured, reviewed and appropriate actions taken.
Analysis and review of reports produced by contractors following Environmental concerns or incidents.
Actively participate in effective project lessons learned processes including input and output. Co-ordinate information exchange between parent businesses.
Provide analysis of project Environmental performance and trending across full Eastern link range of activities identifying trends and making recommendations for improvement through targeted prevention and improvement initiatives across relevant the project.
Monitor, review and provide professional guidance to the HSEQ manager regards compliance with Environmental , codes of practice, guidelines, industry standards and best practice.
Provide support in the development and delivery of overall project training programmes and/or awareness sessions as required.
Promote Environmental best practice at all stages of engineering and construction.
Professional review of Investigation, reporting and lessons learned associated with Environmental NCRs.
Organise and take part in stakeholder initiatives.

Degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental Science discipline preferred
Significant experience in a Environmental Advisors role in heavy construction or energy related projects e.g. transmission networks, CCGT’s, coal, biomass, oil and gas power plants.
Proven experience in developing strategic Environmental management plans
Ability to support in the development and implementation of Environmental systems and processes
Detailed knowledge of Environmental legislation
Expert Knowledge of ISO 14001
Significant experience of Environmental management systems, dealing with the external certification bodies, ideally within a commercially focused utility, service or construction business.
IT proficient in Microsoft applications
Awareness of regulatory issues impacting the business
Proven ability to work within dynamic and agile teams
Experience in Root cause analysis processes
Valid Driving License
