Systems Safety Engineer

Set up in 2011, Synoptix is rapidly becoming recognised as one of the UK’s most capable suppliers of systems engineering expertise and know-how. We have built up an enviable customer base in aerospace and defence and are now seeking to extend our presence and influence in the rail, transportation and public utility sectors.

We contribute to some of the foremost engineering projects in the UK, typically supporting large and complex engineering programmes through the application of systems engineering principles. Our customers benefit from lean delivery of agile projects, utilising best practice developed across a range of industries although currently the majority of our projects are in the private and public defence sector.

The role

As a Systems Safety Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a number of our projects helping to deliver solutions to our customers. We can offer a wide range of projects from a diverse set of clients. Our engineers integrate with customer teams to deliver solutions to complex engineering problems.

Our Requirement

We are looking for an experienced Systems Safety Engineer with at least a 2:1 degree in a relevant discipline.

You should have successfully delivered a number of projects and played a key or lead role in at least one of them.

You must be organised, hardworking, and have good communication skills, with a collaborative mind-set and be open to new ideas and ways of working.

We are interested in the following experience but they are not all essential for you to apply:

A Systems Safety Engineer working for a key defence client on the next generation evolution of a maritime air defence weapon system. The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate experience of the following:

- Conduct of ALARP Risk Assessments

- Generation and review of Hazard Statements and Hazard Logs

- Carrying out Impact Assessments

- Production and analysis of Safety Case Reports

- Managing hazardous materials databases

- Assessing for compliance against safety legislation and standards (i.e DEF STAN, COSHH, REACH etc.)

- Conduct of Safety Gap Analysis

The Systems Safety Engineer will be familiar with working within integrated project teams conducting full lifecycle systems engineering activities. They will also be experienced with highly complex, safety critical systems. Experience of the following is desirable:

- Providing representation to design reviews and certificates of design

- Management and manipulation of requirements databases

- Proficiency with IBM Rational DOORS

- Contribution to Trials Plans

- Experience of integration, testing, verification and validation
