We currently have 2 opportunities available for Lecturer/ Senior Lecturers in Optometry in our School of Health and Social Wellbeing, Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences. This is an exciting time to join our team, given the General Optical Council (GOC) Education Strategic Review and the development of our new MSci Optometry programme.
About the vacancies:
We are looking to appoint to the following 2 posts:
1. Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Optometry
This is a permanent post, and is part-time working on a 0.6 full-time equivalent contract.
2.Senior Lecturer in Optometry
This is a fixed-term post for 1-year maximum, and is full-time working on a 1.0 full-time equivalent contract.

You will be joining ourSchool of Health and Social Wellbeing, in the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, which is a large, diverse and dynamic part of the University. The Faculty brings together experts from Allied Health Professions, Biological, Applied Sciences, Health and Social Sciences, and Nursing and Midwifery.
The School provides a full time GOC approved BSc(Hons) Optometry programme and a range of postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes. As well as the above BSc(Hons) course, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute, where appropriate, to other programmes across the School of Health and Social Wellbeing and to our extensive CPD offering.
It is anticipated that you will have a high level of insight into contemporary optometry practice and will have experience of teaching and assessment in higher, further or continuing education or in clinical practice. Knowledge of the contemporary theories and concepts that underpin optometry practice and education is essential. You must be registered and practicing as an Optometrist or Orthoptist on the GOC Professional Register, either have achieved, are working towards or are willing to undertake a Master's degree in a health/education related subject, and possess strong evidence of continuing professional development related to your current role. Additionally you will hold a recognised teacher's qualification or be willing to work towards one.
If you are new to teaching but can demonstrate the required experience, we can support you and would like to hear from you. We are able to provide support through our Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education programme, and will provide you with the necessary support to develop your teaching skills.
