The Medical Laboratory Scientist I, Certified Technologist I ($25.50 minimum) provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Performs routine and complex laboratory tests in an assigned department of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. Works under the direction of Technical Specialist, Lead, and/or supervisor. Performs waived, moderate, and/or highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision. Uses laboratory procedures and techniques for which he/she is qualified, trained, and demonstrates competency according to established lab standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Note: Applications will be accepted from candidates who are scheduled to graduate at the end of the current academic term, and if hired will have 6 months from graduation to obtain certification. Other restrictions may apply.
Technologist ($20.07 minimum) is a training position that prepares the employee to successfully acquire ASCP certification within four years of hire and then qualify for promotion to Certified Technologist I. While training, the Technologist performs routine laboratory tests, confirms and verifies results in an assigned section of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results while working under the direction of a Certified Technologist I and/or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Technologist at ARUP must have a Bachelor's degree with one of the following semester credits completed (dependent on lab):
16 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of math
25 credits of pertinent Biology, 16 credits of chemistry, and 3 credits of math
25 credits of pertinent Chemistry, 16 credits of biology, and 3 credits of math
Completion of specific coursework and hours required for Limited License Scientist (LLS) in a relevant area.
Technologist, Trainee ($19.12 minimum) is a training position preparing to gain ASCP certification within five years and works under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Certified Technologist I, or Technologist in providing services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory services area.
Technologist Trainees at ARUP must have a Bachelor’s degree in the chemical or biological sciences with the following course requirements (including at least one upper division class needed in relevant biology or chemistry):
o 25 credits of pertinent biology, 16 credits of chemistry, and 3 credits of math
o 25 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of math
o 16 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of math
Specific courses may also be required:
Chemistry: Quantitative Analysis/Analytical Chemistry
Microbiology: Medical Microbiology
Immunohematology: Immunology and Genetics
After hire, must work for one year under the direction of a laboratory technologist.

Physical and Other Requirements:
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors.
Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.
Bachelor's Degree or better in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field.
Clinical Laboratory experience of one or more years (1820 hrs = 1 year) appropriate to the section in which employed
