Network Engineer - IT

Springfield Clinic is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join the expanding Infrastructure team. Under the Network Engineer position, reporting directly to the Manager of Infrastructure, the role will be responsible for supporting all of the day-to-day operations of the organization's enterprise networking infrastructure, as well as help lead the expansion of the infrastructure to support a rapidly growing workforce.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and manage network components such as routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points across the organization's internal 60+ locations, and external affiliate organizations.
  • Performs analytical, technical and administrative work on an on-going basis to optimize the data/voice networks.
  • Proactively communicates status of systems and plans with IT management.
  • Participates and leads the evaluation of vendor products for possible implementation in the company infrastructure and helps develop networking standards across the organization.
  • Develop and proactively maintain accurate documentation of the organization's current network infrastructure.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support.
  • Researches, evaluates and recommends hardware/software changes, upgrades or enhancements.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to ensure a timely resolution during outages, while also maintaining a clear line of communication with the business and other IT staff members about the impact and status.
  • Act as a technical resource for projects, ensuring work is being completed accurately and on-time.
  • Assist and develop network impact analysis, modeling, network capacity planning.


  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of enterprise-level networking experience
  • Cisco CCNA and/or CompTIA Network +: 1 year (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be fluent in TCP/IP and routing protocols, Internet technologies related to network infrastructure, routers, switches, routing and routed protocols.
  • Must have knowledge of configuration commands, software, and hardware components related to LAN/WLAN * Knowledge of CISCO wired/wireless equipment.
  • Hand On experience with TCP/IP fundamentals, ethernet, QoS, IP subnetting, cabling (copper & fiber), OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN Trunking, VLANs, and switching configuration.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills, specifically around producing technical documentation and communicating network solutions.
  • Familiarity working in an Agile or KANBAN style environment is a bonus.
  • Self-motivated, organized, time-management and deductive problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Ability to perform complex diagnostics on network and associated systems.
