  1. For assigned cases the Certified Peer Specialist will:
    1. Assist youth in articulating personal goals for recovery.
    2. Assist youth in determining their treatment goals/objectives.
    3. Teach and support acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate individual recovery.
    4. Promote the knowledge of available service options and choices.
    5. Observe the progress youth make toward meeting objectives.
    6. Serve as a mentor/role model demonstrating competency in recovery, effective coping skills and self-help strategies.
  2. Develop and conduct Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) individual and group education. Educate and engage individuals in the WRAP process as a means to recognize early triggers, signs of relapse, and use of individual coping strategies.
  3. Utilize assessment and planning tools from the TIP model.
  4. Assist with teaching independent living skills such as accessing public transportation options, cooking, cleaning, etc. May instruct youth in group settings, individually or in their homes as appropriate.
  5. Maintain caseload schedule and assure that Independence Ahead MTAY criteria are met. Monitor and keep case records on youth and report progress team.
  6. Maintain all records in accordance with the standards established by the Independence Ahead MTAY; as well as all local, state and federal laws and accreditation guidelines. Assure that all work is properly documented in consumer records, or elsewhere, as required.
  7. Assist in transporting and attending internal and community based meetings as deemed appropriate by the Independence Ahead MTAY.
  8. Accompany and support youth enrolled in social/leisure, educational, occupational, and/or advocacy based community integration activities.
Qualifications
EducationHigh School (required)
ExperiencePeer Support Certification (required)
Within the last 3 years has maintained at least 12 months of successful full or part time paid or voluntary work experience OR obtained at least 24 credit hours of post-secondary education. (required)
Young adult who is or has a lived experience as a recipient of mental health services and is willing to disclose his/her peer status to team members and consumers. (required)
