Database Administrator

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join our growing team of data services experts. The hire will be responsible for providing thought leadership on database architectural design of existing and new systems, database administration, system monitoring, performance tuning/optimization, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate is an experienced database administrator who enjoys optimizing and tuning databases, learning new technologies and implementing solutions. The Database Administrator will support our software developers, data engineers, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in a Database Administrator role, and have attained certifications in Database Administration, and Cloud Architecture.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and implement products to enhance existing database solutions (reduce costs, improve efficiency, improve performance), especially within context of Amazon AWS environment.
  • Review, enhance and develop backup and recovery strategies depending on SLA requirements.
  • Capacity planning, allocation and storage management and monitoring database growth and predictive cost analytics.
  • Develop, maintain, and administer complex ETL using SQL Server (SSIS).
  • Support SSRS environment as well SSIS data loading pipelines and data warehouse jobs.
  • Design, maintain and ensure High Availability solutions including replication, clustering etc.
  • Design, implement and document Disaster Recovery strategies for critical business servers.
  • Perform capacity planning work on Production, UA, QA, DEV and DR environments.
  • Research improvements to improve overall system performance.
  • Support of production environment and mission-critical applications.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other IT teams to successfully resolve support and maintenance issues.
  • Develop and enforce database standards and best practices including performance, security, monitoring policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities):

  • 5+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and administering MS SQL Server databases.
  • 2+ years working with AWS databases - DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift etc.
  • Experience configuring SQL Server replication and SQL Server CDC feature and tools based on CDC integration.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse products on AWS preferred.
  • ETL development experience with complicated SSIS Package coding and maintenance a plus
  • Expertise with T-SQL and stored procedures and table partitioning.
  • Experience with Data Modeling Tools as well as creating and maintaining data models preferred.
  • Goal driven, highly motivated, with a desire to take the lead and learn new skills.
  • Experience working with SSIS, SSMS, SSRS, PowerBI, Excel and SharePoint database integration.
  • Strong customer service skills and passion to work through obstacles to produce results.
  • Able to work in a projects-based, team environment.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking and managing multiple projects, able to meet target completion dates.
  • Able to be flexible and adapt to change.
