STATEMENT OF THE JOB
The Program Aide will assist the frail elderly, with daily living activities in the person’s home or in a care facility. Duties include helping tenants maintain their homes, doing laundry, and preparing meals. A Program Aide's main role is to provide basic care to patients, as well as assist them in daily activities they might have trouble with on their own

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in personal care such as ambulation and personal hygiene assistance.
  • Prepares and maintains records of client progress and services performed, reporting changes in client condition to manager or supervisor.
  • Performs housekeeping duties such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes and dishes, and running errands. Cares for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, family disruption, and convalescence; providing companionship, personal care, and help in adjusting to new lifestyles.
  • Performs health care-related tasks such as monitoring vital signs.
  • Plans, shops for, and prepares nutritious meals, and assists residents in planning, shopping for, or preparing nutritious meals.
  • Trains family members to provide bedside care.
  • Instructs or advises clients on issues such as household cleanliness, utilities, hygiene, nutrition, or infant care.
  • Participates in case reviews, consulting with the team caring for the client, to evaluate the client’s needs and plan for continuing services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma/GED and two years of experience in a social service setting or in providing direct services to individuals or families.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Must possess a strong service orientation, including active listening, critical thinking skills, and close monitoring of clients.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and transactional skills.
  • Ability to participate in team-oriented work.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office, local area networks and the internet.
  • Independent work skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings according to the needs of program operation.
  • Able to conduct field visits and travel throughout the five boroughs as needed.
  • Ability to read computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, & office equipment.
  • Ability to utilize public transportation, climb stairs, walk.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, bending, lifting and walking.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read printed & handwritten materials.
