Job Details

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the clinical Laboratory Scientist uses professional knowledge and judgment to perform technical, analytical, clerical and quality assurance functions within laboratory department section(s) as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Performs various chemical, microscopic, morphologic, microbiological and other tests as assigned, independently, and in accordance with established procedures and policies.

Evaluates the validity of results obtained; accurately records and reports results.

Performs quality control, standardization curves, calibration, and equipment maintenance procedures as directed; recognizes and reports problems and documents corrective action.

Responsible for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the work shift, and for maintaining a clean, neat and organized work area.

Performs various technical and clerical tasks related to receiving, processing, and/or obtaining specimens for laboratory analysis, taking into consideration the age specific needs of the patient, as required.

Demonstrates the ability to effectively use all computer equipment, programs, and instrument interfaces related to operating functions in the division.

Follows various federal and state laws, regulations, and hospital/department guidelines with respect to licensure, safety, universal precautions, fire and emergency procedures, dress code, attendance, time cards and all other personnel policies.

Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance programs of the laboratory section(s) assigned and attends department meetings as directed.

Maintains necessary records and prepares various reports, as requested.

Keeps abreast of advances in the field of Medical Technology and attends continuing education programs as appropriate.

Skills: Basic computer keyboard data skills.

Minimum Position Requeirements:


Bachelor's Degree

Coursework/Training Completion of 1 year approved internship program in Medical Technology.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid California Clinical Laboratory Science license.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: 3 years Experience in multiple laboratory science disciplines as licensed CLS/MT in acute care facility.
