Job Description

The Courier/Laboratory Support technician is responsible for the pick-up and delivery of samples to and from the laboratory. Maintain the quality, hold time, and turnaround time objectives of the lab. The individual is also responsible for receiving and opening sample packages from walk-in clients, FedEx, other mailing services and retrieving samples from drop box. He/she must ensure that all samples are then received and logged in to the Laboratory LIMS system, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. Individuals must be able to perform all required quality control procedures and interact appropriately with customers. Must provide direct support to the Project Management staff and Laboratory Analysts.
  • Pick up and deliver samples, bottle orders and report to the laboratory for sign-in and analysis.
  • Count the number of samples when receiving them from clients to make sure that the Chain of Custody and samples match. Verify that samples are not broken or damaged.
  • Receive and sign the Chain of Custody.
  • Ensure that client signs, dates, and records time on the Chain of Custody when releasing samples.
  • Transport samples from client site to the lab, or from our lab to a sub- contracted laboratory.
  • Unload samples and inspect for damage or violated hold times to maintain sample integrity.
  • Interact with Project Managers and clients appropriately and professionally.
  • Follow directions or use maps to locate client offices/sites as specified in the courier request form.
  • Record in the courier log book the time that courier arrives to the site and time leaving from the site for all the pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Receive and Open Packages
  • Receive and Login all projects and samples into the Laboratory LIMS
  • Label and organize samples and projects according to laboratory needs
  • Coordinate transfer samples and package samples for shipping
  • Perform duties in accordance with Section 14 of the Transportation and Fleet Safety of the Corporate Safety Manual.
  • Comply with the Company's driver policies.
  • Maintain the shipping/receiving area to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments of bottle kits and coolers for pick-up.
  • Perform point of sale transactions for customer supply orders
  • Ability to work productively, efficiently, and accurately in order to ensure client Turnaround times are met
  • Support Project Managers and Analysts
  • Performs necessary Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Participates in Internal and External audits
  • Participates in Lean initiatives as needed
  • Follows company policies and procedures
  • May be assigned other sample control duties as identified by the laboratory management.
  • Manages and maintains the inventory of re-sale supply items and laboratory consumables and takes necessary steps to re-order supplies as needed
  • Manages and disposes analyzed samples as needed
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Performs root cause analysis and implements corrective actions for errors and issues as necessary
  • Support remote locations with daily Login work volume
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Supervisor/Manager


The Ideal Candidate would have:
  • Minimum HS diploma or G.E.D.
Basic Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have proficient typing skills (minimum 40 WPM)
  • Reading maps and following directions
  • Good Driving History.
  • Must have a vehicle in good condition to use for the job.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Position is full-time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with OT or weekend work when needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Houston, TX are encouraged to apply.
