Lead Physicist

Location: Baltimore MD

Job Purpose: 4S - Silversword is seeking a Lead Physicist to work with our Applied Physics Division (APD) on new product development efforts. The Lead Physicist will ensure the contracts and systems under development meet all requirements through modeling, analysis, and measurement of design requirements. Additional duties will include the design of sensors, communications, and other technologies, mentoring and advising staff, leading design reviews and performing as the Principal Investigator on contracts as required to support the APD. Work will be performed in a laboratory environment with a variety of moderate to complex tasks and functional activity.

New technology modeling, analysis, and design:

  • Create novel new designs of critical components for contracts and internal R&D projects
  • Perform modeling and analysis of technology components to ensure functionality
  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff to ensure team collaboration and performance
  • Assist in new contract proposal writing and submission
  • Lead contract development work
  • Assist in writing reports, operational documentation, and other documents as required.
  • Familiarity with laser and precision optics handling.
  • Ability to work with test equipment including oscilloscopes, optical power meters, laser beam analyzers, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Military Facility Access: Must be able to qualify for and obtain a military base access pass.

Clearance: A security clearance is not required for this position at this time. US Citizenship is required.

Education and Experience: This position requires:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Physics, Optics, or other related field and at least two years of relevant experience as a physicist or optical engineer. Research and Development experience is a plus.
  • Experience with opto-electronics is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, COMSOL Multi-Physics, SolidWorks, Mathematica software preferred.
  • Experience in or work for the U.S. military is also highly desirable.
