In the role of Applications Development Manager, you will:

  • Support development of new business through the generation of technical value proposals and multiplication tools, application and design knowledge (market/application, product, processing) at several Global Accounts.
  • Lead and direct Research & Technology product development projects on assigned applications via communication with global team and project management processes
  • Translate customer & application requirements into product specifications to recommend existing products or, if necessary, to draw up product development specifications in consultation with relevant DSM functions
  • Predict critical failure modes in our customer's applications and relate them to marketable material & design solutions; understand the value-added solutions and use them to differentiate DSM service; support AM to capture that value at the Global Accounts
  • As the leading technical interface at customers, incorporate internal specialists when required to increase opportunities for profit and growth at the Global Accounts
  • Make proposals regarding optimum grades, processing, and design
  • Follow the strict NDA and contract requirements of the Global Accounts in internal communications
  • Develop segment-driven, multi-product technical know-how for given application spaces
  • Manage both internal and external contacts/networks related to existing technologies and applications, such that proper focus can be concentrated on application technology development
  • Manage the development process in a value chain with multiple tiers
  • Ensure that technical development goals are part of the Strategic Account Plan

What we look for in you:

  • Master's degree in a technical discipline required; degree in Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering strongly preferred
  • PhD in a materials related discipline a strong a plus
  • Minimum 5 years of Applications experience in a plastics and/or customer application-related discipline required
  • Commercial experience highly preferred
  • Proven success in large and small cross-function team environment
  • Proven success in global projects and teams preferred
  • Significant customer-facing experience or clearly displayed ability to do so in the future preferred
