Platform Engineer- (Seattle OR Phoenix OR Chicago)

**this role is a hybrid digital/office based position based out of one of Starbucks' technology hubs: Seattle, WA / Chicago, IL / Phoenix, AZ**

As a member of our team, you will help design and implement cloud-based and hybrid-cloud systems directly supporting our stores. Our scope includes services on-premises, and in Azure. We manage the entire pathway – tooling to make our lives easier, scaling services to support 50k+ devices in 10k stores, and telemetry we use to make good decisions.


As a Platform Engineer, you will be relied on for your experience, technical expertise, and ability to positively influence others. You will help us apply technology in innovative ways without losing sight of business value. Your day-to-day will include a mix of work related to our existing fleet of services and strategic projects spanning multiple teams.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Solution Design 

  • Demonstrate ownership. Help solicit requirements then use to develop high-level approach. Document thoroughly and socialize within team.
  • Iterate effectively. Help build value with an eye toward final vision via participation in agile / scrum ceremonies.


  • Build and manage infrastructure using IaC tools like Terraform 
  • Develop tools, automation, and services to support on-premises and cloud services
  • Define appropriate tests and integrate for deployment using appropriate delivery pipeline

Production Support

  • Provide 24*7 support of critical systems in a rotating on-call environment
  • Implement telemetry, monitoring, and alerting in DataDog and Splunk 
  • Create and maintain KPI metrics reports, provides trends analysis for recurring issues, and prioritize remediation efforts for recurring issues
  • Engage in incident resolution and the facilitation of cross-functional troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and coordination with vendors as needed
