Custodian Supervisor (School-Based: Evening)

Job Title: PM Custodian Supervisor

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Location: Chicago, IL

Hours: 2 pm – 10 pm

Compensation: $23/hr


JOB OVERVIEW:

One of our campuses, CICS Loomis-Longwood, is in need of a dedicated Evening Custodian Supervisor. The Custodian Supervisor will play a key role in supervising custodians to keep this kindergarten through 12th-grade campus clean so that its staff and students have a safe and pleasant environment that supports teaching and learning.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities include but may not be limited to:


  • Directly supervise custodial employees and assign work to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms.
  • Evaluate the performance of custodial personnel and make recommendations regarding the retention of employees.
  • Ensures that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines.
  • The Custodian Supervisor demonstrates professional behavior, promoting positive relationships with students, staff, and peers.
  • Train new employees in housekeeping procedures.
  • Delegate work to the crew for assigned areas include hallways, classrooms, restrooms, offices, cafeteria, auditorium, gym, library, multi-purpose spaces, exterior grounds, parking lot, playground, and any other area assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.
  • When additional capacity is needed clean assigned areas which may include the following activities: scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, stripping/Buffing/Waxing/Sealing Floors, shampooing carpets, and window washing
  • When additional capacity is needed use chemicals and equipment to perform duties.
  • When additional capacity is needed empty trash from trash receptacles.
  • When additional capacity is needed clean and sterilize restrooms and water fountains.
  • When additional capacity is needed clean up bodily messes including vomit, feces, urine, and blood in accordance with training.
  • Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual’s skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
  • Review current developments, literature, and janitorial sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA and maximum safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by Supervisor.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as company policies.
  • For Night Custodial Crew: report for duty from 2:00pm to 10:00pm on all workdays.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to interact constructively with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to administer and receive constructive criticism.
  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Experience serving in a custodial role for 3+ years.
  • Experience in a school environment is preferred.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated: Employees are required to be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their hire date. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a one-shot vaccination course.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, reach with hands and arms, and must routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires standing and walking on hard surfaces. Requires work in the presence of mechanical and equipment noise. Requires adapting to rapid changes in temperature. Requires the ability to inspect the cleanliness of facilities and areas that may only be accessible by climbing ladders or stairs, bending, reaching on top of partitions, cabinets, bookcases, and ledges, moving furniture, supplies, or equipment. Must be able to move throughout assigned areas, as work is performed indoors and out-of-doors. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered cleaning equipment and machines to include snow shovels. Employees in this job classification (job title) are designated as essential employees and must report to work as scheduled when schools are closed due to severe weather.

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter: usual school working conditions which may be noisy during high student traffic and somewhat stressful due to frequent student activity.
