DNV Energy Systems' business area is making exciting investments in energy storage and the Storage and Grid Edge Intelligence (SAGE Intel) team is growing in 2021 and beyond. We are seeking a qualified Energy Storage Consultant to be focused on energy storage and hybrid (renewable plus storage) system analytics, technology evaluation and business model consulting to project developers, utilities and investors. The Consultant will work across utility scale, commercial and industrial (C&I) and residential markets for energy storage systems, renewable plus storage systems, microgrids, and distributed energy resources. In this role, you will use energy system modeling, operations research, and predictive analytics to develop decision metrics for energy storage systems performance and valuation. This position will include responsibility for project leadership, inter-disciplinary business support and business development. Key focus will be on growing DNV's Energy Storage Advisory practice by offering innovative solutions in storage systems, hybrid renewable plus storage systems and the future of the electrical distribution system.

This position will be key in growing DNV's practice around energy storage technologies, integration with renewable resources like solar PV and wind, microgrids, and the distribution system of the future – including both bulk system and distribution system analytics and modeling of DER services and value. Broad knowledge of the electric industry is required including recent trends and history, awareness of regulatory proceedings and policies at both the state and national level.Ideally, this role will be based in our Chalfont, PA, Portland, OR, or can be in any of our DNV US-based offices or remote from any location in the continental U.S. (except Colorado and Connecticut).What You'll Do

  • Managing projects and/or project tasks, executing deliverables
  • Modeling energy systems using DNV developed, self-built or off-the-shelf software tools
  • Daily interaction with customers via phone or video or in-person
  • Understanding customer needs or gaps and offering technical solutions to cover those needs
  • Analyzing and interpreting technical data and documents
  • Summarizing key results, and communicating and reporting these results in verbal and written form
  • Collaborating with a team on the development of new business and projects
  • Presenting or aiding in the development of presentation materials for conferences and workshops
  • Collaborating with a team on the development of new proposals for advisory or testing work

Position Qualifications

What is Required

  • Master's degree in an Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science discipline
  • Minimum 6 months experience in the energy industry. Internships are accepted.
  • Candidates can have any or all of the following skillsets:
    • Capability to model or simulate energy storage operations
    • Experience with managing and working with large databases
    • Experience with energy storage hardware
    • Experience with data analytics related to the operation and maintenance of energy systems
  • Strong skills in engineering modeling and statistical modeling software including one or more of the following software platforms:
    • Python
    • Matlab
    • Microsoft Excel
  • Candidate must have experience in being part of project team(s)
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to be customer-facing
  • Interpersonal skills, customer interaction, and solid speaking and presentation skills
  • Comfort with interpreting, analyzing, and synthesizing dataAbility to work within expected deadlines, while being adaptive to changing scope or customer needs
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

What is Preferred

  • Broad knowledge of the electric industry is required including recent trends and history, awareness of regulatory proceedings and policies at both the state and national level.
  • Familiarity with financial pro-forma analysis.
  • Capability to understand digital engineering models and perform engineering modeling to support technical or business decisions.
  • Business development or involvement in industry groups or committees is desired
  • An eye for detail and desire to deliver a quality work product
  • Comfort with equipment common to the energy industry
