Network Support Technician

POSITION TITLE: Network Support Technician



FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
Basic Responsibilities
Primary technical support contact for the credit union. Implement, support and maintain IT systems and resources including all desktop related hardware and software as well as network devices and software.
Essential Functions

  • Offer technical support to employees on-site, via phone, email and ticketing system.
  • Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and repair PCs, phones, printers, scanners and other related desktop hardware and software.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of network servers, wiring, switches, firewalls, other network devices and policies as well as provide information to higher level support for more advanced issues and projects.
  • Monitor, test and deploy software patches, firmware updates and patch policies.
  • Assist in the monitoring of alerts, reports, dashboards and logs.
  • Create and maintain IT documentation and procedures.
  • Assist in creating, implementing and tracking staff training programs.
  • Provide backup support to the AVP IS & Security, Business Analyst and Network Administrator.
  • May occasionally need to work early mornings, evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Skills Required

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science or information technology.
  • Minimum 2 years professional IT support experience.
  • CompTIA A+, Network + or similar IT certifications preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows & Linux).
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to and learn different software platforms and tools.
  • Experience building, installing and repairing PC and network hardware.
  • Experience with directory systems including OpenLDAP, eDirectory and Active Directory preferred.
  • Experience working with VLAN, VoIP and QoS.
  • Experience with anti-malware applications/services.


  • Basic understanding of network technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with system imaging tools.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly, professional manner, and explain technical information in a way others can understand.
  • Ability and motivation to take part in IT related training.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Flexibility and capacity to manage many responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to organize projects, to prioritize workflow, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • Ability to follow and document procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting for long periods.
  • Ability to squat, crawl and bend to access wiring and equipment under desks or in other tight areas.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent finger manipulation to perform various duties such as typing, filing, writing, and entering data into the computer.

Use of Senses

  • Frequent oral conversations, in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to hear or otherwise receive information, and understand that information, from communications in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to view a computer monitor for frequent periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
