C-2/Meals on Wheels Driver

Position Characteristics:

Deliver meals to homebound seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish under the direction of Meals on Wheels Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To reflect in all aspects of job performance the mission of the East Baton Rouge Council on the Aging, Inc. “serving the elderly in East Baton Rouge Parish, to enrich and enhance their quality of life through advocacy efforts, creative planning, and coordination and provision of needed services, and to make it possible for them to live independent lives as long as possible”

  • Load meals into assigned delivery vehicle in a manner to ensure safe transportation of the meals
  • Deliver meals and unload at assigned homes and designated centers
  • Assist in preparation and packaging of food as needed
  • Keeps assigned vehicle clean and orderly
  • Refers seniors in need to Nutrition Supervisor for follow-up by Information & Assistance Management Department staff. Provides information on EBRCOA programs and community services
  • Provide resource information to homebound seniors as required
  • Report any health or status changes on homebound seniors on assigned route
  • Deliver paperwork or other materials from the homebound seniors to the Nutrition Supervisor
  • Any other duties deemed necessary

Physical Tasks:

Performs a variety of physical tasks associated with the work of a Meals on Wheels Worker including sitting, standing with movement, walking, bending/stooping, crawling, climbing, reaching above shoulder, reaching below shoulder, reaching at shoulder, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying and pushing and pulling; repetitive hand and foot motion; hearing and vision abilities in accordance with the physical task analysis. Lifting at least 40 lbs. at a time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the EBRCOA as presented in Mission/Philosophy statements
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, clients and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in diverse workplace and with a diverse client population. Able to comfortably and respectfully serve the special needs of an elder client population
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Personal vehicle registered and insured according to the minimum requirements of the State of Louisiana

Other Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent with 3 - 6 months of experience in janitorial work or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour
