Control Panel Builder 2


We are seeking a motivated Electrical Controls Panel Builder (Control Panel Builder II) to join our team in Franklin, MA.  This exciting opportunity is responsible for the accurate fabrication of high quality custom control panels using panel drawings, schematics, and appropriate tools in order to effectively complete product assembly. This position is also responsible for the physical assembly, wiring and testing of control panels for industrial equipment. The Technician will fabricate panels to print, including layout and physical mounting of components to the back panel, wiring of all components, installation of control panels onto equipment, and point-to-point testing to ensure proper wiring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read drawings and understand basic electrical wiring
  • Work alongside a seasoned panel builders in order to gain knowledge to work independently
  • Understand the MFG arena and the budgeted hours for each job
  • Instill the business need to outperform project budgets and meet on-time deliveries on a daily basis
  • Strategize ways to improve the techniques of building panels and continuously work to improve current methods
  • Plan and manage the training of others, including future Electrical Controls Panel Builders
  • Utilize thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical schematics in daily tasks and projects
  • Conduct tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (ex. state laws, federal laws, ISO 9001, etc.), as well as Kaman Automation policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years of shop or mechanical training, or demonstrated capability for gearings, bearings, hydraulics, linear, and other assembly processes

Skills and Abilities Essential to the Position:

  • Ability to work on project builds with minimum assistance required
  • Ability to fabricate the entire back plate, enclosure, and wiring of control back panel and enclosure doors required
  • Proficient at installing wire labels and device tags
  • Proficient at all types of FAB shop power tools and their uses
  • Ability to read and understand tape measures (metric and standard) and other types of measuring devices
  • Ability to read and identify colors on wires
  • Confident in working with hand tools and all power tools with little guidance
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings with minimum assistance
  • Proficient at reading and identifying wire gauges and colors on all wires
  • Competent at recognizing wire gauges, ampacities, and their uses
  • Ability to identify hardware components within a control system
  • Complete understanding of what PLC, VFD, circuit breakers, etc. are and what their roles are in the control system
  • Ability to comprehend and know the differences between NEMA ratings of enclosures
  • Proficient at recognizing and installing all types of wire labels and device tags
  • Completely comprehend electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Ability to identify any wiring or drawing errors and reporting back to engineer for correcting
  • Ability to recognize the difference between stainless steel and painted steel, as it pertains to the FAB area and the tools needed to work on these products
