Quality Assurance Lab Technician

The Quality Lab Technician is responsible for testing materials or products using laboratory supplies. Follows generally prescribed procedures. Uses proper laboratory techniques. Maintains equipment. Keeps records of tests associated with batches or units. Notifies appropriate production and management staff when failure conditions are observed. Performs general laboratory cleaning duties including washing equipment, sweeping, mopping, wiping down counters, and other cleaning duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge and compliance of all safety guidelines.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Test Materials for fats and proteins using the Leco, Perten (NIR) and using the Gerber method.  Test samples for mixability, solubility, pH and moisture.

  • Maintain records and spreadsheets of product testing results.

  • Receive raw materials and perform COA review.

  • Track medicine variance in product.

  • Support quality projects and programs as needed.

  • Other tasks as needed. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

Competencies - (skills, knowledge and abilities)

  • Reading and understanding of laboratory testing procedures 

  • Maintenance/Calibration of lab testing equipment 

  • Minimal 5 years laboratory experience- is not required but preferred 

Minimum General Requirements:

  • Feed mill/Food/Industrial lab experience is a plus 

  • Read and write in English 

  • Good math, language and reading skills; basic computer skills required 

  • Execute assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner 

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalency 

  • Minimal 5 years laboratory experience- is not required but preferred 

Work Time Requirements:

  • Full time, 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am - 6:30 pm.  Potential OT. No weekend work.
