Coder-Physician Services (1.0FTE)

Watertown Regional Medical Center

The Coder performs chart and coding audits to ensure compliance with current law, regulations and accrediting agencies.  In collaboration with Coding Lead, performs daily and monthly close processes including report generation.  Additionally, is responsible to perform various tasks related to claims submission, and communications with patients regarding account inquiries.  This individual reviews clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-9 (with transition to ICD-10) and CPT codes for reimbursement, internal and external reporting, research and regulatory compliance. Also reviews clinical orders for medical necessity, identifying and verifying ABNs, as necessary. This position requires the ability to assign charges as appropriate and for Professional and Facility Coding across one or more medical specialties.

Job Requirements:

A well-qualified candidate will have at least one year of education beyond high school and five years previous related experience in coding field (required).    Certification as a CCS, or CPC is required within 6 months of hire. The position requires knowledge of healthcare industry, insurance industry, and current federal/state regulations governing billing practices and current knowledge of CPT and ICD-9-CM coding practices.
