Responsibilities

Essential Duties for an Intake and Ongoing Child Protection Caseworker:

  • Is responsible for extensive case documentation in the state data base meeting mandated requirements and preparing court reports.
  • Communicates professionally through written documentation as well as verbally.
  • Assesses allegations of child abuse/neglect and monitors risk/safety of children/youth. This involves having difficult, truthful, and extensive conversations with family, their supports and community professionals. Critical thinking skills to make difficult decisions is a must. Based on safety concerns removing a child from their home may be necessary.
  • Collaborates with law enforcement, schools, medical personnel, mental health agencies, and other service providers.
  • Treatment planning with families and their supports to address the safety/risk concerns for children.
  • Teamwork with supervisors, peers, family members, and community professionals. Participation in individual and group supervision.
  • Advocates for families and children, testifies in court and de-escalates potentially volatile situations.
  • Schedule flexibility due to frequent late evening hours for home visits, crisis situations, and family meetings. The hours of the position can be unpredictable.
  • Requires daily travel to family homes for home visits and within the community. This can be within and outside of Larimer County.
  • The ability to work in the field, office, remotely and testify in court.
  • Will discuss in detail and work with families dealing with substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, multi-generational poverty, child abuse/neglect and sexual abuse.

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

Social Caseworker I Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a human behavioral sciences field required. Examples of degree titles include Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Human Development/Family Studies.
  • To meet the minimum educational requirements of a human behavioral science degree, the applicant must have a degree with major course work (equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) in either development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures or therapeutic techniques such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling, and child development required.**
  • Successful Fundamentals of Child Welfare Case Practice completion and certification by the State Child Welfare Training academy required.
  • Maintain continuing education hours annually and comply with state training requirements required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License required.
Social Caseworker II Qualifications:
  • At least one (1) year experience as a Social Caseworker I with Larimer County, or as a professional social caseworker in either a public or private agency, after obtaining a qualifying degree required.
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a human behavioral sciences field required. Examples of degree titles include Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Human Development/Family Studies required.
  • To meet the minimum educational requirements of a human behavioral science degree, the applicant must have a degree with major course work (equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) in either development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures or therapeutic techniques such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling, and child development required.**
  • A Master's Degree in an appropriate field as defined above may substitute for experience is required.
  • Successful Fundamentals of Child Welfare Case Practice completion and certification by the State Child Welfare Training academy required.
  • Maintain continuing education hours annually and comply with state training requirements required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License required.
**Education degrees do not qualify for this position.
