What You'll Do

Wind River Systems is seeking an experienced high-performing Principal Technologist (Director-level technical architect) for a position researching, prototyping, developing, deploying and maintaining future generations of software safety certification process and tools.

These tools & processes will form a critical offering to speed the development of cloud and embedded connected intelligent systems. Just a few examples could be avionics systems, autonomous cars, warehouse robots, medical devices, and rail.

The successful candidate will report to the engineering leader for certification and will be their Technical leader. They will lead the technical direction for the highly skilled development team delivering the internal and external tools, at cloud scale, and process across the complete lifecycle of certified products.

A blend of exemplary technical skills, decision making and communication skills will be key to this position.

In the past you've:

  • Led technical architecture specification and delivery to implement process and tools for safety certified systems
  • Succeeded in launching software-centric systems certified to DO178, IEC61508 or ISO26262.
  • Worked extensively using cloud solutions to create embedded systems
  • Conceived, devised, created, implemented and operated development and operations systems
  • Integrated class leading FOSS tools, as well as proprietary software products
  • Taken a developer experience approach to accelerating development


  • Lead the technology roadmap and technical detail for Wind River future certified products, such as hypervisors, RTOS and associated development tools
  • Work cross functionally, and with partners to define the technology and implementation behind the agile processes for future certification.
  • Work cross functionally, and with partners to define the cloud scale accredited tools for future certification.
  • Collaborate across the technical organisation to achieve disruptive results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technology Leader in a software engineering functional for functional safe software systems
  • Expert technical leader in A&D, Automotive or Industrial for certification tools and processes
  • Expert technical architect for APIs formally described in IDLs, with associated tools
  • Expert in the technology of cloud tools, on cloud platforms; like AWS, Azure, Kubernetes and Docker
  • Expert in tools and technologies for requirements management, certification processes, automated tested and evidence generation (Polarion, DOORS, Jama, Codebeamer, etc.)
  • Experience with certified embedded hypervisors, RTOS and application development
  • Experience in organizations operating with agile scrum, and with continuous integration
  • Experience in connected or autonomous systems development a bonus
  • Agile mindset and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • 5+ years of experience of software safety certifications
  • 10+ years working in software development arena
  • BSc / MSc degree (Computer Science, Computer/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical degree)
  • US Person on US soil
