Student Data Engineering Specialist

ASU Enterprise Partners, a private, nonprofit organization comprised of five subsidiaries that raise, create and invest resources for Arizona State University, is seeking a Student Data Engineering Specialist.

The Student Data Engineering Specialist is a member of the Data Engineering team within the Technology & Solutions (T&S) department at ASU Enterprise Partners. Data Engineering supports the integrity, augmentation, integration, security, and stewardship of all Enterprise Partners' data assets. This position works closely with other members on the Data Engineering team to ensure data is available in an accurate, complete, and timely manner to support business decisions, processes, and reporting.

This position will work 15-20 hours per week during the fall and spring semester with extended hours during the summer, spring and winter breaks.

What you'll do:

  • Classify data stored in the data warehouse as sensitive or non-sensitive
  • Assist with the creation of ETL packages using SSIS and Azure Data Factory
  • Monitor ETL jobs via a dashboard, and take the necessary actions to resolve failures
  • Use SQL to investigate data for end users
  • Validate and clean existing data using SQL
  • Run ETL and SQL packages to load 3rd party data into the warehouse
  • Manage multiple projects and assignments concurrently
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with other team members
  • Document and track tasks in a project management system
  • Perform other duties and projects as required by the organization

What you'll need:

  • Compelling interest in data, warehouse technologies and the movement of data
  • Good knowledge of database technologies
  • Ability to query data using a standard SQL language
  • Willingness to learn how to clean data in a complex environment
  • Curiosity towards learning more about integration of systems through data
  • Ability to foster and instill trust through interpersonal interactions
  • Aptitude to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone
  • Collaborative style combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties with consistent follow through
  • Highly organized and able to work efficiently on multiple tasks with deadlines
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its subsidiaries, and University business and confidential prospect information
  • An advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University

Relevant qualifications:

A current student at Arizona State University pursuing a degree in a related field with a willingness to learn and ability to work well with others. Student must be willing to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement.

Mental demands:

Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects or deadlines.

Working conditions:

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. This position may be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.

This position will require a computer, telephone, and mobile communication device ($30 bi-weekly payroll reimbursement).
