Respiratory Therapist (Casual)


Casual Respiratory Therapist -A minimum of 32 hours every 4 months. RRT required.

Plans and delivers the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, education, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system as well as on the prevention of the development of these deficiencies.

Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient's condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams, consistent with our Gillette CARES expectations.

Major Challenges

  • Supports a patient's respiratory system in a time of crisis.
  • Provision of education to patients and their caregivers on respiratory anatomy and physiology, disease management needs, ventilator management, CPR, therapy, trach changes suctioning and solving problems in emergency situations.



  • Registered through NBRC as RRT. Beginning 2019, new Graduates must be registered through NBRC within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be licensed with the State of MN
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If candidate holds valid CPR through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment, but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of date of hire..
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written, is imperative
  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions quickly
  • Must be accurate, thorough in all therapy modalities and operation of equipment


  • Experienced preferred but willing to train candidate with good decision making and critical thinking skills
