Sustaining Test Engineer

Location: Waltham Office

As a Sustaining Test Engineer you will sustain, support, and continuously improve manufacturing test infrastructure for our Spot Robot at both internal and our external contract manufacturing sites. Every day you will interact with the manufacturing, quality, and design teams as well as external contract manufacturing test and debug teams to ensure failure free production. To thrive in this role you must be able to understand the design of test equipment and associated software, and you must be capable of understanding complex electromechanical systems and assemblies at a deep systems engineering level.  Additionally, you must be able to read electrical schematics, understand low-level protocol specifications, diagnose failure modes and work with both manufacturing and engineering teams to identify failure trends.

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications, logistics, and warehouses.

Day to day activities:

  • Work within a manufacturing engineering team to support and sustain manufacturing tests

  • Collaborate with all engineering groups within the Spot team (electrical, software, mechanical, and controls)  to enhance test software (some programming required)

  • Develop documentation on the use and maintenance of test systems

  • Train both internal and external technicians in the use and support of production test equipment, test programs, and debug processes

  • Work with engineering and quality control groups to develop and improve test data collection, storage, and interpretation.

  • Evaluate failure trends and drive root cause corrective action for test failures

  • Occasional travel to our contract manufacturing sites

Desired skills:

  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining test software using  LabVIEW, and/or TestStand

  • Comfortable interpreting software programs developed in C/C++, others have written

  • Considerable experience with analog and digital test equipment, including tools such as handheld DMMs and oscilloscopes, as well as computer controlled test equipment such as DAQs, programmable loads, and computer controlled relays.

  • Experience working with manufacturing team members to create test plans and procedures for complex electromechanical assemblies on in-process and final assembly lines

  • Experience working in both Windows and Unix based computing environments

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and comprehension of basic electrical engineering concepts (e.g. how resistors, capacitors, and inductors function in a circuit)

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

Boston Dynamics will never ask you to divulge your personal financial or account information as part of its recruiting process.
