The City of Irvine seeks motivated, customer-service oriented individuals with athletics experience to oversee athletic facility and field operations, lead athletic programs and special events at various City of Irvine and Orange County Great Park athletic facilities. These positions are part-time with a flexible schedule up to 19 hours per week. Shifts are scheduled weekdays, 9 (see application details) p.m., and weekends, 7 (see application details) p.m.

The ideal candidates have two years of college or university level work in Recreation, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field and possess one-two years of related athletics experience.

The Process

Interview: After a thorough review of applications, those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their application will be invited to an interview.

Background Check : A thorough background investigation will be conducted prior to appointment.

Medical Examination: A medical examination will be conducted, including a drug screening and proof of a negative TB test to ensure the ability to perform assigned duties. According to   CDC guidelines , COVID-19 vaccination can impact the timing of TB tests and progression through the process.

Future Vacancies: This recruitment may be used to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.

Part-time employees are employed "at will" and their services can be discontinued without cause.

Certain City budgets may not include funding for mandated  CalPERS  employer contributions. A qualified candidate who is a current member of  CalPERS  may be restricted from temporary/part-time employment.

Part-time employees must contribute 4.3% of base pay to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). The City contributes 3.2%. Contribution rates are subject to change.  

The City does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare Program.
