ASU Enterprise Partners, a private, nonprofit organization comprised of five subsidiaries that raise, create and invest resources for Arizona State University, is seeking an Accountant to join our team.

The primary role of the Accountant is to perform a full scope of accounting functions for ASU Enterprise Partners entities, maintaining a complete and accurate set of financial records updated on a timely basis.  The accountant will perform professional accounting duties in a variety of areas requiring professional, competent knowledge of accounting principles and applicable laws and regulations. The accountant will also provide support for annual financial audits, the annual tax filing process and be responsible for creating desk procedures for their area of responsibility. Decision-making is governed by Enterprise Partners policy and legal requirements, but some interpretational latitude exists.

What you'll do:

  • Understand non-profit accounting policies and fund accounting, including a familiarity with accounting for endowments
  • Perform full-scope accounting functions for ASU EP entities
  • Serve as point of contact for ASU EP entity teams
  • Assist with transaction processing as needed for assigned entities
  • Prepare and/or post journal entries to record transactions
  • Complete month-end close tasks on or before required timeframes
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and remedy reconciling items as appropriate
  • Review and analyze monthly Trial Balance for accuracy and reasonableness for assigned entities
  • Review monthly financial statements for assigned entities and follow up on variances as appropriate
  • Prepare quarterly and annual workpapers and related footnotes to financial statements\
  • Support annual financial audits for assigned entities/functions
  • Support annual tax filing for assigned entities
  • Respond in a timely manner to customer service inquiries in ASU EP ticketing system
  • Cross-train and serve as a back-up resource for other team members as needed
  • Create and maintain desk procedures for areas of responsibility
  • Contribute to team special projects as assigned
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives as identified through own work or by other team members
  • Other duties as assigned 

What you'll need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, accounting principles, practices and procedures; NFP experience preferred
  • Experience with various general ledger reconciliations
  • Experience with financial accounting software and Microsoft Office; highly proficient in Excel
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its subsidiaries and University business and confidential prospect information
  • Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone
  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects

Relevant qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related area with accounting coursework AND minimum 3-5 years of professional accounting experience (NFP preferred).  Workday experience highly desirable. CPA optional.

Mental demands:

Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects or deadlines.

Working conditions:

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. This position may require some early mornings and evenings to accommodate meetings and events.

This position will require a tablet computer, desk telephone and mobile communication device ($60 monthly reimbursement).
