LEAN IMPROVEMENT ENGINEER– Reading, PA

Lean Improvement Engineers at Carpenter provide a diverse range of technical product or process services to our internal and external customers.  This position will provide   support to operations and metallurgy functions to improve quality and business performance.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Responsible for making proper disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard materials.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide training and education to operators and peers.
  • Engage and interact with operators in manufacturing setting to improve process.
  • Provides support, leadership and guidance to peers, operators, and managers in key projects.
  • Leads others in the use of statistical methods and experimental design.
  • Manages functional project teams to address and solve complex problems and recognize business trends– including project planning and budget compliance.
  • Recognizes and communicates technical risk to management.
  • Applies LEAN, SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to detect and eliminate project and/or process inefficiencies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Four-year college degree in Engineering.  Preference for Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience, combined with consistently strong performance.
  • Experience with Lean tools and principles
  • Experience and comfort in manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills across multiple business levels
  • Ability to travel and access mill and manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to be self-directed and serve as a mentor to internal resources.
