About the Position

WestEd is looking for a research assistant to join the School Choice team. A large portion of the work will contribute to the National Charter School Resource Center, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Charter School Programs. Additional work may contribute to other projects both within and beyond the School Choice content area. With the guidance of WestEd senior staff, the research assistant will help with the following tasks:

  • Conduct reviews of literature and legislative materials to contribute to larger tools and products
  • Administer web-based surveys and assist with other data collection
  • Contribute to the development of tools and products
  • Code and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
  • Assist with writing drafts of reports and other resources

SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING THE WORK LOCATION OF THIS POSITION - Currently, all staff at WestEd are working from home until further notice. Once we return to offices, this position will be based in WestEd's Los Alamitos office. Candidates can submit a request to work from home.


  • The research assistant should have an interest in school choice, such as charter and magnet schools.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills and prior experience in reading academic articles, synthesizing information, and analyzing data, including basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience with web-based survey platforms (e.g., Survey Monkey) and statistical software (e.g., SPSS) is desired.
  • Master's degree in education, social sciences, statistics, research, or similar field preferred.

Salary for this role is competitive and at WestEd grade Level E.
