Medical Technologist - PRN (Night Shift)

Shriners Children's Texas, the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center, has an opportunity for a PRN - Night Shift Medical Technologist.

The Medical Technologist provides clinical laboratory services by accurately performing and evaluating diagnostic technical procedures in accordance with the established regulatory and accreditation standards for clinical lab science. Diagnostic procedures performed may include chemistry, microbiology, hemostasis, hematology, blood banking, urinalysis and phlebotomy. Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, and acts as a resource to staff and the general public regarding assigned areas of responsibility.

Required Education

Bachelor in Medical Technology, CLS or Science

Required Experience

1 year of clinical laboratory preferred

Certification and Licensures

CLS, MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.

Medical Technologist in state of practice required.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with children with multiple diagnoses, age levels and cultural backgrounds and with their families; Operate designated machinery and tools skillfully and with safety to self and others; Perform assigned duties in compliance with safety, health and infection control standards, policies and procedures utilizing standard precautions; Interact effectively with those contacted in performance of required duties; Communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written form.

Job Requirements:


  • Provides oversight of technical laboratory operations
  • Analyzes and reports all laboratory tests requested on patients within the scope of practice of a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • Performs quality control, operates instrumentation, and provides training within the scope of practice of a Clinical Laboratory Medical Technician
