Drafting Technician

We are looking for an experienced Drafting Technician to join our team!

General Summary:

The Drafting Technician utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) software and mapping systems to prepare network maps of outside plant extensions and to record changes to the existing outside plant network derived from layouts and sketches. Follows established technical specifications to prepare drawings. Consults with engineers regarding accuracy of design standards. Keeps records of outside plant accurate at all times.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide support to engineers and field personnel in all aspects of project documentation;
  • Prepare detailed “As Built” drawings via CAD software;
  • Transfer plant records and staking sheets into CAD mapping system;
  • Enter new service order plant information into system;
  • Assist with inquiries from other departments personnel regarding plant information including fiber and HFC service availability as well as copper loop length verification;
  • Maintain mapping system upgrades;
  • Work with Engineering in layout and design phase of new cut-over projects, schematics, maps, etc.;
  • Maintain records related to outside plant staking and all associated duties such as rights-of-way and local, state and federal permitting;
  • Recognize and provide feedback on drawing issues such as source code violations and line weights;
  • Participate on teams to research and document existing inventory of telecommunication and related equipment;
  • Regularly access facilities for general review of system configuration, spacing, rack layouts and cabling connections;
  • Assist in tracing connections between pieces of Telecommunication-related equipment;
  • Take and update photographic records of all physical equipment;
  • Scan and file facility documents and other data as needed;
  • Travels to customer sites, project areas, business related events, and other Ritter Communications locations as required;
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by Outside Plant Engineering Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of electronics and network drafting principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of telecommunications products, services, and service delivery methods;
  • Proficient in the use of computer aided drafting software;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and forms including work orders, staking sheets, schematics and circuit diagrams;
  • Ability to analyze and effectively document large volumes of technical data;
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments;
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to make sound decisions using information at hand;
  • Ability to travel for business requirements; must possess a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to performing effectively in a project team environment.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent plus two years drafting experience; Associates Degree in Drafting or Electronics a plus;

3-5 years of experience in a technical/engineer environment, telecommunications experience preferred;

Proficiency in Cadtel or Mapcom software is a plus;

Proficiency in use of CAD software is required, experience with Auto CAD is high desirable.
