Registry- Orthotist-Prosthetist (Certification Required)



 

The Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist will provide care to patients with disabling conditions of limbs or loss of limbs by fitting and making orthoses or prostheses under the direction of a physician.

Principal Responsibilities



The Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist:

  1. Examines and evaluates patients' prosthetic and orthotic needs in relation to disease entity and functional loss.
  2. Measures and makes needed casts.
  3. Formulates design of prostheses or orthoses including selecting materials, making case measurements and designing model modifications and layouts.
  4. Performs fittings, including static and dynamic alignments, of devices and makes necessary alterations.
  5. Evaluates prosthesis or orthosis on patient and makes adjustments to assure fit, function, cosmesis and quality of work.
  6. Educates patients and family in prosthesis or orthoses use and care.
  7. Evaluates patient progress and maintains patient records and progress notes.
  8. Assists technicians and residents in activities related to the development of prosthesis and orthoses.
  9. Assists with the instruction of orthotic/prosthetic residents as they complete required elements and/or as need by the residency program.
  10. Presents continuing education programs regarding prosthetics and orthotics evaluation and fabrication to health care professionals.
  11. Monitors inventory of all required departmental supplies.
  12. Monitors quality control, OSHA, ABC, and Joint Commission compliance related to all facets of patient care in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
  13. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
