Biomed Engineering Tech I- Clinical Engineering

Job Summary:

To perform entry-level biomedical electronics work troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, calibrating, modifying, and testing medical equipment and instruments used in diagnosing and treating diseases.

Education & Experience:

Associate's degree in Biomedical Technology or Electronics Technology or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Employees working in dialysis departments must be able to discern color differences for water testing. 
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and the fundamentals of electricity, electronics, and solid-state devices.
  • Knowledge of biomedical equipment and functions.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Ability to comply with safety, environmental, and infections control standards and practices.
  • Ability to maintain files and records.



·         Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and tests analog and/or digital biomedical electronic equipment, instruments, and apparatus.

·         Performs preventive maintenance and/or electrical safety inspections on equipment.  Tests, adjusts, and calibrates to federal, state, and local electrical and fire safety standards and manufacturer specifications.

·         Assists with the installation of patient care or clinical laboratory equipment and with the development of methods and procedures for proper operation of electronic equipment.

·         Ensures compliance with safety and environmental procedures.

·         Confers with faculty, staff, clients, vendors, students, and/or supervisors in determining equipment problems or fulfilling service requirements.

·         Evaluates medical equipment and prepares reports and documentation for unusual incident equipment malfunctions. Assists in creating and maintaining database files for equipment inventory.
