SUMMARY: The Animal Technician (AT) is an entry level position and is an AT in training. The AT may participate in the collection of raw data, and the routine husbandry of animals after training. Performs beginner level research and animal care duties to assist the Study Director(s), Study Coordinator(s), Animal Technician(s), and/or Staff Veterinarian(s) in the conduct of research studies and the care and handling of animals.

What you will be doing:

  • You will be working with small and large animals in a Research setting.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of animal care and welfare in accordance with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC)
  • Performing daily cleaning, feeding of our laboratory animals
  • Providing environmental and Dietary enrichment for the animals
  • Learning to apply the proper handling and other techniques.
  • Working in a team environment
  • Fast pace environment


Job Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

·       Participates in execution of research project, the preparation and conduct of each phase of the study, and data collection according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), the research protocol, and (if applicable) GLP requirements.

·       Follow all SRC SOP's.

·       Cleaning and general husbandry of animals.

·       Accurate data collection of study and facility data.

·       Physical plant monitoring and upkeep including the assessment of structure, animal housing and caging, ventilation, equipment, etc.

·       Participate in the detection of sick animals.

·       Assist with animal restraint and procedure support.

·       Participates in animal identification.

·       Participate in animal socialization, enrichment, and grooming.

·       Participate regularly in weekend duties.

·       Perform all other duties as assigned.

 Job Qualifications

 

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Laboratory Animal Technician position:

 

 

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Experience: Working with animals is preferred but not a absolute requirement.

Preferred Experience: Additional pay for Animal Science degree or Two years’ experience with animals facility performing animal husbandry. 

 Preferred but not required Certification/Licensure: ALAT certification and strive to become LAT certified within six months of eligibility.
