General Information School of Media Arts and Design multimedia journalist for the 2021/2022 academic year. We are seeking a creative, curiosity-driven, self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented and team-oriented student to help cover developments for the SMAD website and related social media platforms as well as specific duties listed below. Duties and Responsibilities 1. The selected student must understand it is that student's responsibility to accurately complete, sign and submit time sheets to my supervisor each pay period. This is a condition of employment and after two consecutive time periods (one month) of not submitting time sheets, the student could be terminated from the position.
2. The multimedia journalist will be required to regularly report, write and produce content for the SMAD website. Assignments will include preview stories of events, timely event coverage (such as same-day stories about guest speakers), pieces about other SMAD-related developments and trends as well as profiles of SMAD faculty, staff, students and alumni.
3. The multimedia journalist will be encouraged to produce coverage in different ways, including but not limited to brief audio interviews/podcasts, video pieces, photography and on social media. (Having completed SMAD 201, 202 and 203 is preferred.)
4. The successful candidate for this position also will help assemble and edit content for the annual SMAD newsletter.
5. Training for the Cascade system (JMU's website management program) or iModules will be required. Qualifications Familiarity or experience with reporting; Strong writing, communication and storytelling skills; Basic understanding of AP style; Familiarity with photography, videography and audio acquisition as well as basic photo, video and audio editing skills are highly desirable; Experience posting on and managing social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram is a plus. Conditions of Employment

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
