Line Cook

The Battery is looking to hire an experienced full-time Line Cook. Applicants must have a flexible schedule and availability to work both weekday and weekends AM/PM shifts.

The Battery is San Francisco's unique modern-era private social club. The Battery houses four bars and casual, yet stellar dining rooms serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, private event spaces and catering, and a boutique hotel including penthouse suites. Spa, steam rooms, gym, library, green room, garden, and breathtaking views of San Francisco add to the unique ambiance. The Battery offers a dynamic membership program including frequent lecturers, eclectic performing arts, curated experiences, publications, and excursions. The Club also houses The Battery Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization supported by our Members that has made more than $10 million in grants since its inception.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary objective of the Line Cook is to learn how to work in every area of the kitchen. In order to accomplish this, a Line Cook rotates throughout the kitchen. Working as a Line Cook involves learning a wide variety of different skills in a short amount of time and practicing those skills by implementing them in actual tasks throughout the kitchen.

  • Perform many basic tasks of food preparation and organization in the kitchen.
  • Effectively communicate with other members of the kitchen staff.
  • Gracefully receive constructive criticism as well as effectively carry out orders.
  • Remain calm while multi-tasking.
  • Report to duty punctually, wearing the correct uniform.
  • Run the line during the service, ensuring that the highest standards are met and that communication between all sections and restaurant departments is efficient and polite.
  • Produce menu items for service co-coordinating with other departments, maintaining the high standards and always adhering to the spec to achieve the correct quality, appearance and portion size.
  • Monitor the quality and presentation of dishes so that only those, which meet our high standard, are served to our members and guests.
  • Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained by following cleaning routines and through ongoing diligence during the shift and in set-up and clean down procedures.
  • Observe the company’s fire plan and health safety policy.


Must have and be able to do all of the following:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Three or more years of experience in a kitchen or related atmosphere preferred.
  • Degree from a culinary school or equal years in hands-on experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Sufficient math skills to work with recipes, ingredients, and figuring portion size.
  • Valid food handlers card.
