We are looking for a Public Health Specialist to join our statewide team. This position will work with community coalition coordinators offering guidance, information, and support to help them improve community health and promote racial and health equity throughout their work. You will be responsible for working 1-on-1 with coordinators and their coalitions to identify areas of need/support and then create and deliver individualized services to meet their needs and build capacity. This includes sharing information, experience, and resources, as well as helping coordinators identify strengths and challenges and think through solutions. You will also work with the rest of the team to develop and revise materials and resources; organize meetings, trainings, and virtual peer-to-peer learning opportunities; and prepare and deliver presentations.

What You Will Be Doing to Make a Difference...

• Work with community coalitions and their coordinators to provide training, resources, and guidance to meet their needs and support their work, in areas including strategic planning, partnership building, racial and health equity, policy and systems change, program implementation, communications and evaluation.

• Contribute to the development of materials and resources

•Make active contributions as part of a collaborative team, and take on leadership roles as needed

•Participate actively in regular team meetings, providing input on community needs and emerging issues

• Plan and facilitate conversations, meetings, events, trainings, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities (virtual and in-person) that are useful and interesting to coordinators and other prevention providers in the state

• Develop and deliver presentations on current topics at trainings and other meetings

• Communicate effectively and develop and maintain positive relationships with community coordinators, local officials, statewide leaders and colleagues

•Collaborate with others in the state's prevention system, including evaluators, consultants, and state-level contract managers, to develop and deliver the most useful and effective services and resources for grantees

•Work closely with statewide team to develop strategies for addressing needs and gaps in community-based prevention

• Maintain up-to-date documentation of services provided in database, and meet other reporting requirements

Note: This position is funded by the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and works with the Center for Strategic Prevention Support (CSPS) which provides a comprehensive system of technical assistance to communities across the Commonwealth.

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours a week) In Person & Remote Work; Ability to travel throughout Massachusetts and attend biweekly meetings in Waltham (post COVID-19 pandemic)

. Requirements:

We are looking for an individual with experience and skills related to community organizing and engagement, community health, public health or macro social work, racial equity and social justice, teaching or another relevant field. This position requires excellent communication, problem solving, and active listening skills; initiative, creativity, and adaptability; the ability to work independently and effectively in groups; strong relationship building skills; an understanding of the social determinants of health and a commitment to racial and health equity. The ideal candidate will have the curiosity and ability to learn new things and an interest in public health. Ongoing training and professional development opportunities are provided.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Skills and Experience)

** Please note that skills and abilities will be considered more critically than education

• Bachelor's degree and extensive relevant experience in a related field

• Master's degree in a related field preferred, but not required

• Prior leadership experience preferred

• Ability to work with diverse communities and offer culturally and linguistically appropriate services

• Experience promoting collaborations and partnerships within and/or across agencies and communities

• Comfortable with technology

• Valid MA driver's license with acceptable driving record. Having a vehicle with current proof of insurance is a plus, but not required, as long as you have the ability to travel throughout Massachusetts, mainly on the Southeast Coast, and attend biweekly meetings in Waltham

• Acceptable CORI and SORI background record check as required by program
