Position Summary:

The Embryologist participates in the daily activities of the Fertility Laboratory at the Bennett Fertility Institute which provides a full array of fertility services including andrology testing and processing, endocrinology testing and embryology. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Essential Functions:

The Embryologist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Embryologist I:

* Performs Fertility Lab services involving highly complex procedures in the manipulation, micromanipulation and preparation of human gametes and embryos

* Prepares serum specimens for immunoassay analyzation

* Identifies oocytes and assesses their quality (after 3 to 6 months training)

* Manipulates oocytes for insemination (after 3 months training)

* Manipulates embryos for transfer, cryopreservation and/or thaw (after 6 to 12 months training)

* Assists the Lab Supervisor in ensuring optimal, cost-effective delivery of Embryo Culture Lab services

* May perform phlebotomy services

* Performs Quality Control activities

* Performs andrology evaluations including preparation of sperm for procedures


Reports to the Lab Director.

Environmental Conditions:

High exposure to hazardous risks, including daily exposure to blood, tissue, body fluids, needles, glassware, potential infections and communicable diseases, electrical equipment, chemical and fumes, for which protective clothing and apparatus are provided. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, heat, disagreeable odors and potential sensory deprivation (from frequently being confined to a small, cramped, low-light space). Frequently required to work >8 hours/day, very early morning or late afternoon hours, weekends, holidays and on-call. Occasionally required to report to work during the night when incubatory alarms have been sounded.

* Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or a Bachelors degree in a related field of science (Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science) and 1 year of experience in InVitro Fertilization and/or 1 year of work experience as an Embryo Technician preferred.


* Associates Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science plus 3 years of lab experience and 1 year of experience in InVitro Fertilization and/or 1 year employment as Embryo Technician preferred.

* Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Verbal/Written)
