Psych Nurse Practitioner - Part Time, Benefits

Position Summary

Provides comprehensive diagnostic assessment for patients admitted to the Behavioral Health Clinic at St. Joseph Medical Center. Practitioner will provide acute psychopharmacologic management while patients are being placed in long term follow-up in the community. Practitioner will work collaboratively with a team of social workers who will provide brief individual and group psychotherapy as well as case management. Practitioner will additionally provide psychiatric consultative services to SJMC primary care practitioners. The position is a 0.625 FTE, flexible hours. Potential for full time position. The NP will have a program assignment that may include adult or geriatric patients with a general psychiatric disorder. Care is provided in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Minimum Required Education:

Master's degree in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program with specialization in area of practice.

Required Experience

Preferred: 5 years of experience in the identified area of expertise.

Licenses and Certifications

Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license by the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice or compact privileges under the multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement. Unrestricted medical staff membership, with appropriate practice privileges. Relevant life support certification as determined at position level. Allied Health credentialing through Medical Staff Services office required. Prescriptive authority as appropriate, per medical staff service privileging process. Certification by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center), licensing verification by the State Board of Nursing, search of the HSS, EPLS, and DEA systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior nursing experience in the identified area. Certification in specialty area preferred.

Within scope of job, requires a broad based general medical knowledge and interest in or experience in the treatment of general psychiatric disorders. Must be able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, seek consultation when needed and take appropriate action. Duties and Responsibilities

Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening and care. NOTE: I deleted immunizations

Provides direct treatment and management of psychiatric disorders, including use of prescriptive authority and referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.

Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and wellness, treatment options, and community resources. Provides care in the context of promoting age and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision-making and the right to self-determination.
