ALS Paramedic MS Transport

Job Summary Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of patients with range of need from uncomplicated to complex, in transport and in the Emergency Department in collaboration with the physician. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional care and coordinates care delivery with the physician and other members of the healthcare tea Minimum Qualifications Education/Training High School graduation or equivalent. Completion of an accredited paramedic program. Experience 1 year experience as a National Registry Paramedic (NRP). License/Certification/Registration National Registry Paramedic, Maryland Paramedic Certification, Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). District of Columbia Paramedic certification within 30 days of hire Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated ability to precept. Demonstrated high level of clinical competence. Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication. Basic math skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Based on assessment of physical, emotional, bio-physical, and spiritual needs, provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes. Incorporates the principles of patient-centered care.
  • Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format. Clearly and accurately documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record. Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures. When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
  • Provides for the emotional support of patients and families during the crisis of illness. Demonstrates patient/family advocacy.
  • Delivers expert paramedic care in ambulances to multiple patient types to include adult subspecialties and pediatrics.
  • Collaborates with on line medical control physicians to manage the patient care of complex patients in transport.
  • Participates in the orientation program for new staff.
  • As part of the program’s safety management system, provides feedback and participates in program safety initiatives.
  • Participates in MedSTAR Transport safety program.
  • Administers and maintains pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids during inter hospital transports.
  • Ensures safe operations during ambulance related activities in coordination with the Emergency Vehicle Operator.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
