Course Number and Title: CLA210H1S –Greek and Roman Archaeology

 

Course description:  A survey of the practices and theory of archaeology in the Classical Mediterranean, from the Greek Bronze Age through the Roman Empire. This course introduces students to the archaeological record of the Greco-Roman past, as well as the means by which we access it. Students will develop essential skills to recognize and analyze ancient material culture in preparation for upper level classes, or for fieldwork. No previous knowledge of the discipline is required.

Schedule

Tuesdays 11:00am – 1:00 pm & Thursdays 11:00am – 1:00 pm              

 

Sessional dates: January 1, 2022 – April 30, 2022

 

Salary: $8,489.66 for Sessional Lecturer I; $8,869.25 for a Sessional Lecturer I Long Term;

$9,085.57 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $9,301.89 for a Sessional Lecturer III.

 

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in collective agreement should prevail.

 

Minimum Qualifications: PhD degree in Classical Archaeology; advanced academic preparation in the area of Greek and Roman archaeology; advanced knowledge of Latin and classical Greek. Training in history of art, museum collections, and fieldwork desirable.

 

Description of duties: Preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades (including any grading or submission of grades not completed by the end of session, April 30, 2022); holding regular office hours; supervising TAs (if any) assigned  to the course.
