Karna, LLC is seeking a multi-faceted Health Communications Specialist to contribute to and provide expert consultation and technical expertise to develop, write and edit new content for a variety of media and materials including: fact sheets, scientific articles, print and electronic newsletters, blast emails, and web pages. This role will also be responsible for engaging community partners in their outreach strategies and providing support in developing agency-specific communications collateral.


  • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate media events, draft media relations materials
  • Provide written and oral communications to present information in a clear, concise, and understandable medium to various target audiences
  • Maintain social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Provide guidance and expertise for developing, testing, and disseminating science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages
  • Serve as a technical resource to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate translation and dissemination of scientific information
  • Conduct and manage community outreach, research and program evaluation activities for health communication and marketing
  • Apply research results to strategy, and message development
  • Provide advice, technical assistance and leadership in planning and developing communication and marketing priorities, campaigns, strategies, and practices for effective communication and marketing


  • Master’s Degree Required in Public Health or Health Administration, Communications or related field
  • 5 years of previous experience in Health Communications
  • Ability to produce high quality deliverables in a fast paced environment

  • Experience working on communications campaigns that include multiple components, such as message and materials development, materials dissemination, earned media outreach, digital or social media promotion, partnership development, etc.
  • Ensure communication activities are based on accepted principles, methods, and best practices
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Previous experience with technical assistance and adapting messaging based on research
  • Proficient in social media content creation, management and evaluation
  • Understanding of health communication theories, principles, practices and techniques
  • Digital media strategy and implementation
